Cover Oregon: Public site glitch fixed so browsers can view plan details

Oregon's health insurance exchange has fixed a glitch that removed plan details from its public Cover Oregon website.

Programmers for Oregon's health exchange are slowly hammering out bugs that have delayed enrollment for the new Cover Oregon website.

Now plan details are up including information on copays, co-insurance and preventive coverage. Previously, the lack of information highly limited the website's usefulness for people hoping to buy their own policies on the individual market.

Individuals can browse

.

The public

amounts to the state's backup plan as it

a larger glitch blocking enrollment on a separate website used by agents and application assisters. That site has had problems accurately determining whether a person is eligible for tax credits or other government assistance, such as the Medicaid-funded Oregon Health Plan.

officials had hoped to allow consumers to enroll themselves by Oct. 15, but now that function may not be available until November. To date, nobody has been enrolled through the website. Though enrollment is possible for people without using the website, they'll lose access to tax credits and other government assistance only available through the exchange.

In the meantime, consumers

to determine whether they are eligible. Cover Oregon hopes to determine this week how it will  process those applications.

Next up: Cover Oregon spokesman Michael Cox said a search function letting consumers check on health plans by provider on the public browse-only site should be ready in a couple of days.

People who are on Medicare or who get their coverage through a large employer aren't affected by Cover Oregon. Only individuals who buy their own commercial policies and employees of small businesses who sign up with Cover Oregon can use the site to shop for plans.
