The House Energy and Commerce Committee released Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) documents showing that the administration knew about healthcare.gov issues as early as July.
The committee released a statement Friday detailing the numerous findings from the HHS documents, which included numerous concerned emails between officials.
"We believe that our entire build is in jeopardy," the website’s project manager Henry Chao said in one of the emails. "I just need to feel more confident they are not going to crash the plane at take-off, regardless of price."
Other emails detail issues HHS had with CGI federal, the government contracting group responsible for building the website.
One official wrote on July 8 that too few website developers were working on a certain aspect of healthcare.gov.
"Only one of these developers is at a high enough skill level to handle complex issue resolution, which now appears to be requied [sp] for all aspects of our build," the official said in the July email
The committee will meet again Tuesday to discuss website security issues.
"Administration officials looked us in the eye and told us everything was ‘on track’ but when we pull back the curtain now, the mess is disturbing," committee chairman Fred Upton (R., Mich.) said. "The botched rollout has created a serious question of competence and trust in the administration that we will continue asking at our hearing next week."
