Jimmy Fallon's finger injury: Tonight Show host explains

Jimmy Fallon is back at the Tonight Show desk following an injury that ripped his finger out of the socket.

The host was forced to cancel a June 26 taping, and revealed to audiences Monday the extent of his injury — and it was gruesome.

After tripping over a braided rug (“that my wife loves and I can’t wait to burn”), he caught his fall but his finger ended up sideways, looking like a “cheap horror movie.”

At the hospital, he was told that he didn’t just break his finger — he had suffered from “ring avulsion,” something which Fallon advised you do not Google. (Really — don’t. Take our word for it. It’s a bad call.) Basically, his ring getting caught on the counter is what ripped his finger off — in a lot of cases, you end up losing the finger entirely.

Thanks to the doctors and nurses at Bellevue Hospital in New York City, however — and, in particular, a microsurgeon who implanted a vein from Fallon’s foot into his hand — the late-night host should be able to regain the feeling in his hand in eight weeks following six hours of surgery and 10 long days in the ICU.

As he recovered, Fallon did what anybody would do in his situation: watch The Real Housewives of New York City.
